Fieldwork • Research • Reflection

Over the past three years I have been actively involved in planning, designing, developing and running the Maker Lounge at High Tech High's Chula Vista campus.  Below you will find a collection of resources developed for educators who are currently engaged in and/or interested in the impact of making in education.  As this site continues to grow, I will be adding additional resources and reflections about making in the classroom - so check back often.

Fieldwork Reflections

Fieldwork Reflection 1 - An exploration of equity in group work with HTMCV staff through a series of professional development meetings, designed to identify issues and take action towards inequities found in group work settings.
Fieldwork Reflection 2 - How the Maker Lounge became a reality.  In this reflection I talk about the start of the development of a Maker Space at our school.  This reflection explores how I went about identifying the needs and wants of our staff and used this as a foundation for the development of the Maker Lounge .
Fieldwork Reflection 3 - Rethinking what education can look like in the classroom requires rethinking one's assessment processes.  This is a two part reflection about our attempt at changing our own assessment practices based upon feedback from students and parents.  The first part of this is presented as a video (embedded in the link above) in which you will hear the voices of both students and parents about this process.  The second part of this is a written piece designed detailing the reasoning, and research supporting our actions as well as discussing the process as a whole.
