Logistical Considerations

Once you have determined the type of MakerSpace you will be building and where it will be located, the next step is developing your plan for the instilation, use and upkeep of the space.  In developing this plan there are four main areas where you will need to focus your attention: managing, developing, training and sustaining.  The sections below will guide you through developing a plan for putting your space into action and insuring its success.  Once you have your logistical plan in place the next step the next step in the process will be determining the physical layout and components of your MakerSpace using the link below.

Managing the Space

Every MakerSpace should have a dedicated person or persons who are in charge of managing the space and the logistics of its use, and maintaining the tools, materials and equipment housed there.  This section will guide you through identifying this person and developing the requirements for the job at hand.

Training Development

MakerSpaces can be built for many different purposes and used by many different people.  Regardless of the type of space you are developing safety should be a number one priority of any MakerSpace.  In order to insure the safety of each of your users and the longevity of your space and the tools housed within it, a training program should be developed for each of the tools and machines housed within.  This section will get you started on the development of your own training protocols and materials to help your space be safe and successful.

Developing the Space

Developing any size MakerSpace is a challenge, and the larger the space the larger this task becomes.  This section will help guide you through developing a plan for the creation of your space, as well as identifying how you will bring this dream to life.

Sustaining the Space

Much like a house, MakerSpaces require constant upkeep and maintenance too keep them running safely, efficiently and for a long time.  A MakerSpace is a large investment, and the development of a maintenance plan is key to protecting it.  This section will help you start developing your own plan for the future success and longevity of your space.
